    Hello Doctor,

I bought a pair of sneakers that are a tad small. It's okay for just walking around but when I wore them and proceeded to dance a certain night away, my toes were sore and the next day they were purple. The clot kind of spread a little bit and after a few days I experienced no pain, but now I am left with unsightly toes (the big toes).

Now, I know that they will fall off eventually. Same thing happened when I had my suitcase fall on my left foot. (I'm just hoping they grow back). My questions are: Will the toe nails grow back with a normal color or am I going to be plagued with the purple/black hue forever? Is there a way the falling off part can be accelerated? It's warming up now and I don't want to be left wondering if people are staring at my feet because of my cute sandals or because of the ghastly colored toes. It's bad enough that I have gigantic feet for a woman which of course is stare worthy on its own without coupling it with my current problem <sigh>. I wish I could attach a picture here so you could see.

    HELP!!!

    Thanks in advance.

    Carol

  2. Hi Carol - I know you are frustrated with how your toenails look, but be glad that you don't have pain. Also, more good news: The new nails will usually grow in normally. For now, you need to wait for you new toe nails to grow in - or maybe cover the nails with polish!
