I had hammer toe surgery at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital in NY in 1984. The surgeon is long since gone and so are my records. I had pins in my toes and from what I remember had the joints fused. I need to be sure that the pins were removed as I need to go for an MRI. Any idea of how I can be sure?

  2. Hi - Usually, pins ARE removed, but not always. You could have an x-ray taken of your foot. However, pins in the foot are not always a contraindication to an MRI. Talk to the facility performing the MRI and see if pins in the toes are even a problem.
